They didn't match easily, but that was expected from a match made on the foundations of broken hearts and conservative families. It was expected, that they spent their wedding night in awkward silences, and weeks after in explosive arguments over silly things like toothbrushes and the colour of the curtain.

The first time they even shared a kiss, after their wedding, tasted of alcohol. It wasn't even the expensive wine Eichi had bought for them as a sarcastic souvenir during his last trip to Hong Kong, but the cheap beer, the kind you can buy at convenience stores at ungodly hours of the night.

Because it was at ungodly hours of the night, that they desperately need those drinks.

And the sex that followed was expectedly awkward. Awkward as Kuro, just a few days post his heat was this side too soft. Awkward, because Keito had not been with his omega, having spent most of his youth obsessing over his best friend.

“We shouldn't have gotten married,” Kuro said, a half-laugh, a half-groan as he hands clawed at the pillow behind him.

And Keito agreed, somewhere along the way. There should have been nothing wrong with their match, an alpha and an omega, Keito's parents liking Kuro's dad. There should have been nothing wrong, yet everything is wrong.

The rhythms of their bodies did not match, the sound of their heartbeats and breathes in discord, clashing against the walls of the flimsy home they had built to bind them together.

It was only when they came did they match in their timing and grunts and in their lack of pleasure.

continuation of the above

It was times like this that Keito sort of regretted enrolling Souma in kendo classes since he was old enough to run around with a toy sword, hitting Eichi whenever Eichi came over.

His boy was sharp, and while that would usually be something Keito bragged about this his business partners from China, it was a bit of annoyance when they were trying to fuck late at night without having their little boy run into their room swinging around his toy sword in one hand and holding on to his oversized turtle plushie in the other.

“We should soundproof these walls,” Kuro laughed when Keito awkwardly inched towards the bed, bare skin hidden by the darkness of the room.

“I'll consider that,” Keito replied earnestly. He really would.

Except that meant he can't hear what was happening in Souma's room next door, which would be inconvenient once Souma is a teenager.

He shuddered at the thought.

“Hey, hey, danna, you're thinking of unsexy things in bed again aren't you?”

Six years of marriage and Kuro had known him better. The fights had dialled down to decisions to ignore flaws, their lives had gone from being based on broken hearts to being based on the little boy sleeping soundly in the room next to theirs.

When he leaned in for a kiss it had gone from awkward to a subdued calm, and the warmth of his husband's hand had gone from strange to familiar.

Perhaps it wasn't so bad they had to be quiet.

It was in quiet did they manage to hold on.
